Megan Hess (she/her) Instructor

Megan Hess (she/her) @beadhead_flyfishing has been with Fly Fish Instruct since it’s creation in 2021.  Megan is the founder of BeadHead Fishing Company, a guide service and fly tying company based out of Hudson, Maine. She has a bachelor’s degree in aquatic biology and a masters degree in ecology and environmental sciences. She researched heavy metal contamination in water bodies of the National Parks using aquatic insects (ecotoxicology) for 8+ years. Entomology questions? Ask away!

She is now the Environmental Services Coordinator for the Town of Orono, the University of Maine college town. She is a Registered Maine Fishing Guide who loves to guide for native and wild brook trout in northern Maine at Chandler Lake Camps and Lodge, and also guides for smallmouth bass on the Penobscot River out of her Scott Canoe during the warm summer months. She is a commercial fly tyer that has provided flies for fly shops in Maine but also ties custom fly orders. Additionally, she is on the pro staff team for Old Town Canoes as an educational blogger.
