Fly Fish Instruct presents Bob Bartlett. Please join us for this virtual hour of storytelling as Bob reflects on both his youthful and mid-life experiences stream side and how aging has brought him to new insights and habits while in pursuit of trout. This is not a tragic tale similar to Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea’s Santiago and the loss of his 18’ marlin, but it is similar in the lessons and insights learned from an aging fisher and his favorite pursuit.
Meet Bob – https://flyfishinstruct.com/team/bob
Bob is a retired university educator, author, storyteller, river advocate and passionate fly fisher. He comes from a long line of African American river people and fishers. Bob was born and raised in a small town in the mountains of West Virginia on a tributary of the North Branch of the Potomac River. His family has resided in the same mountainous valley for nearly seven generations. Bob’s grandparents and great-grandparents were neighbors in town on Water Street. Their homes faced the spring creek that runs through it. Only a city sidewalk, a single lane asphalt street and a short concrete flood wall separated them from the water’s edge. That valley and creek are where it all began for Bob.
Circumstances in the early 70s forced him west to Colorado where he met and married his wife Shonna, a native of Wyoming. He and his family have lived in Colorado and the Pacific Northwest for nearly 50. years. Now in his mid-70s, Bob has fly fished both big and small streams in. Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and Washington and. salt water off the coast. of and in the Olympic Peninsula.
